Educational Outreach Project in Mexico supported by Medici Scholars."Music Across Borders” is an educational outreach project that presenting masterclass and a solo concert at Chiapas University of the Sciences and Arts in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mexico. In this public masterclass, four senior-year piano performance majors are chosen to participate by the chair of the piano department. Over two days, each student will receive one hour of instruction. The solo concert will include works by Mozart, Bach and Bartok.
The purpose of this project is to promote cross-cultural exchanges through classical music and give student at Chiapas University an opportunity to perform and receive feedback from a pianist outside of Mexico. This masterclass will help the students to improve their playing in their preparation of upcoming graduation in December 2018. My hope is that my playing will inspire audience and students embracing diversity in education, creating diplomacy and encourage the students to continue their graduate studies in the States. The piano department at the Chiapas University of the Sciences and Arts has provided me a letter of invitation and will provide housing and meals throughout my stay from May 14-18th in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico.
